Bride With White Hair - indescribable hyper-over-the-top fantasy cult flick. Excellent, but grossly violent.- $13

The Duel- Andy Lau - This is a very entertaining classical/magic&swords special effects movie. On a similar level as Storm Riders, but not as serious. Plenty of light comedy brightens it up. A+! - $23

The Emperor's Shadow - Go You, Jiang Wen. Directed by Zhou Xiaowen (Farewell My Concubine and Raise the Red Lantern.) This is an epic Historical Drama about the first Emperor of China. One of the best films from mainland China in the past ten years! Highly recommended! Language in Mandarin only, with English Subtitles. We sell the region one full widescreen version from Fox Lorber-ONLY $19. For international sales, we also carry the all-region Hong Kong version (but which is cut some), for $12.

Heroic Trio- a cult favorite. Kind of weird. Some violence against babies, so not for the squeamish. Kind of like an Iron Monkey on acid. Maggie Cheung, Michelle Yeaoh! (Please note: we carry the re-mastered version, not the old version shown in picture.- $13 - new low price.

The Iceman Cometh- Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung in possibly their best roles. Great action, drama, and comedy.-$11

Iron Monkey - Donnie Yen, Yu Rong Guang, Jean Wong; Tsui Hark (Producer), Yuen Wo Ping-director. This is our best selling title- not only because we have the best price, but the action is filled with real acrobatic (and the usual "wire work"). A classic tale of the Chinese "Robin Hood" who steals from the rich to give to the poor. This DVD release is also very special because it includes an optional English dubbed soundtrack. It also offers numerous subtitle options, including English, Vietnamese, Thai, Spanish, Japanese, and many more! - $24 - US or Hong Kong versions

Drunken Angel (1948) - excellent picture quality, even though origninal film is over 50 years old) - Great classic Kurosawa film about a benevolent alcoholic doctor who takes care of the poor residents of a post-WWII bombed city in Japan. Fascinating human study. This is also a thriller about one of his patients- a dangerous local gangster who is chronically ill with tuberculosis. This film is Highly Recommended! - only $16

Throne of Blood (1957) - This is Kurosawa's samurai version of Macbeth. This version is so well made that it is difficult to describe all the reasons without writing a ten page review. Just some excellent filmmaking: cinematography, acting, directing. Black and white, full frame. No one can agonize onscreen as well as Toshiro Mifune. - $16

Sanshiro Sugata (1943) - Akira Kurosawa's first feature film. Fascinating tale of the history of Judo. His ability to manipulate and utilize wind blowing in tall grass (one of his trademarks for several of his films) is evident in this one in the final battle. - $16

 

The Killer - Chow Yun Fat - John Woo-director - French, English, and many other subtitle menu options. This is the high quality Media Asia version. - $35.

Chinese language with removable English subtitles. The picure quality is the same or better than the old Criterion. The director's commentary is new and easier to understand. Lord of East China Sea - Ray Lui, Kent Kent Cheng; director: Poon Man Kit. This is an epic historical drama about Shanghai of the early 1900s up until the nationalist party ousts the foreign powers and the communists. A great film, masterfully directed, beautiful music soundtrack. Recommended! 142 minutes, dual layer-excellent digital transfer. - $22

Once Upon a Time In China - Jet Li, Rosemund Kwan, Yuen Biao, Jacky Cheung; Tsui Hark-director - $28

Peking Opera Blues - Brigitte Lin, Cherie Chung, Sally Yeh, Wu Ma; Ching Siu Tung(Action Dir), Tsui Hark-director - this is a hit-classic kung fu action with comedy. This is truly great comedy and action! A Tsui Hark modern classic. Highest recommendation. - $16 new low price only good while supplies last. This may be going out of print soon.

RAN - New Masterworks edition. Akira Kurosawa's most successful film. An epic telling of Shakespeare's King Lear, where three sons get their inheritances early while their father is still alive. Two of the sons betray the father and fight between themselves, the one loyal son is banished by the father because he doesn't want the father to give up his own inheritance (because he knows of what may happen). This Masterworks-Wellspring new release is all region, and is much higher quality than the Hong Kong version which usually sells for a higher price. - $23

Rock and Roll Cop - Excellent "cool cop"-action yarn starring Anthony Wong at his very best. This is an oft-overlooked modern classic. This is by far Anthony Wong's best film. Recommended!- $28

Royal Tramp - Very good widescreen film. Classic swordplay with comedy - $15 new low price for the Mei Ah version.

Royal Warriors- one of Michelle Yeoh's best movies is also an early one. Great police-action with her unique kick-boxing style. - $13

The Storm Riders - New Recent release Hong Kong popular fantasy/swordplay with great special effects and story. Recommended! In stock now. We carry the high quality Hong Kong version, not the cheap and featurless China version. - $24

Swordman 2 - Widescreen! - Jet Li, Brigitte Lin, Michelle Reis, Rosemund Kwan. Directors: Ching Siu Tung and Tsui Hark. 9 subtitle selections including English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, and Korean. Recommended!- $22

Zu Warriors From the Magic Mountain - Brigitte Lin, Yuen Biao; Tsui Hark, director! - A true Hong Kong Classic: Great special effects and mystical fantasy kung-fu tale - 9 Subtitle selections - RECOMMENDED! One of the best Hong Kong films ever made! This is much higher picture quality than the Tai Seng laserdisc - $12 price reduced!
